Playing bass guitar after injury...?
Hi, I dislocated my 3rd finger (one nearest the little finger) on my left hand 4 years ago, as a result of that the end joint (nearest the fingernail) doesnt have much movement. I occasionally play a left handed electric because im a lefty but am considering starting to play RIGHT handed bass but as i practiced with my upside down lefty i realised it is almost impossible for my 3rd finger to bridge over strings because of the lack of movement. So i was wondering if bass techniques even use 'bridging' of more than one string if you know what i mean, for example my left hand cant play some chords that involve the finger holding down multiple strings. However single strings is fine, when it has to lay flat is the problem. Thanks, as you can guess I know nothing about bass techniques but from videos i have seen it looks like it is mostly work with your fingertips..?
Don't worry about technique for now. Are you having fun playing your instrument? Is it something you want to pursue? Then do it! Start learning to play righty because you dont need your ring finger. Play a normal right handed bass. Learn it and groove baby!
